Nanofilm’s Policy on Nanotechnology

Since the beginning of time, naturally occurring nanomaterials have been present in the environment. The erosion of stone can put nanoparticles into the air. The lipids in body fat are nanomaterials. Research also now shows that large-scale manmade materials that are currently deemed safe have long created nanoparticles that enter the environment. This includes nanomaterials released by automobile tires and ablating concrete, among others. It’s only under the eye of today’s higher-powered measuring tools that the fact has become known.

With more than two decades of experience with nano-based products, it’s clear to us that nanotechnology offers real solutions to customers. We believe future nanotechnology products can offer new benefits and intend to actively pursue their successful development.

From our founding, Nanofilm has recognized that new technologies always present the potential for risk. In our commitment to bring the promise of nanotechnology to fruition, we have maintained a culture of concern for the safety of our employees, customers, suppliers and the larger community. This commitment extends to every area of our work, from the research laboratory to our manufacturing processes. We have over 20 years of experience in nanotechnology development and utilize our expertise and experience in our approach to new development and existing manufacturing.

We proactively weigh potential risks as part of project development and we consider ongoing vigilance about safety to be at the core of our policy. Should concerns arise at any stage, we take appropriate measures to eliminate the problem. The products we take to market have been carefully and comprehensively judged to be safe on the basis of all available scientific information. In addition, we provide information about the safe transportation, storage, use, processing and disposal of our products to our customers and other partners.

Our concern for safety and the environment also extends beyond our own facilities. We welcome and are vigorous participants in the public debate on nanotechnology safety and environmental issues. We consider it a privilege and obligation to share our knowledge, to learn from all points of view, to pursue relationships that forward knowledge of the field. We also interact with government bodies, non-governmental organizations and industry organizations to help promote sound legislation, regulations and guidelines.

We place a high value on trust and transparency in all our interactions. We provide information about our products and technology that is accurate and timely to help assure the safe progress of nanotechnology.
